To come on short Herceptin Riders events, you just need to know how to ride a bike, have a license of some kind and a legal, road-worthy machine, and have a few clues about Formation Riding. Email the organiser thru the link on this site for info on that if you need it.
If Breast Cancer is something that's near and dear to your heart, nobody needs to know why, if you don't want to tell them. Just show up, help us make the point and keep the Herceptin profile up there in the political arena where it needs to stay, and join in the fun -because its ALWAYS! about that too!
On the longer haul events the schedules are demanding, so... as a rider, you'll need enough experience, physical and mental fitness to be able to ride comfortably for up to 9 hours in any one day, and every day for a full week. Some days will be less, and all days will include decent breaks for refreshments and refuelling along the way, but there are a lot of miles to cover. No refund of registration fees or sponsorship monies paid will be given for any registered rider who opts out of a ride, once they've opted into it.
Secondly, your bike will need to be road legal, i.e. have current registration and warrant of fitness. Ideally, it should be maintained to the standard appropriate for a week-long ride. The organisers of the Herceptin Riders Peaceful Protest Ride will not take responsibility for breakdowns or accidents, and any which occur as a result of a rider not having his/her machine in good repair will be the sole responsibility of the rider. Comprehensive Insurance is strongly recommended. On longer trips, back up crew will assist in fixing breakdowns at the roadside where possible, and will transport any bikes not able to be repaired as such to the nearest garage or motorcycle specialist for further work. If any rider wants a bike taken to a specific dealership, all efforts will be made to meet such a request, but no guarantee can be given that it will happen.
You will need adequate protective riding gear, including helmet, jacket, pants, boots, and gloves. Wet weather riding gear is also strongly recommended, even on short runs.
Whenever a longer event is organised, the details of registration etc will be posted on this website. The next is planned for October 2008, so keep the site in your favourites and check in regularly for updates.
