Riders' Limited Edition T-Shirt
Well known Nelson-based artist Dean Raybould very generously donated his time and his wonderful visionary talent to create a t-shirt design especially for this event. Riders who registered in advance of the ride received one t-shirt each, with the opportunity to purchase an additional shirt for a pillion. Aside from all the other good things about the Herceptin Peaceful Protest Ride, this is a unique opportunity for participants and supporters to own a piece of strictly limited edition wearable art, created by one of New Zealand's most celebrated artists. The Artist!
Nelson based highly illustrative artist with a penchant for word-play in titles of his paintings. "Art can be seen as an unconcious search for an authentic self, and here searching is the main narrative thread. Stringing loosely together universal questions of belonging and identity-national and cultural, personal and spiritual... or joining knotty contemporary realitys with humanity's hardwired hunt for a tribal hearth. Salient searches that are often unresolved like the ambiguities portrayed in these works".Dean has generously elected not to claim copyright over the design for this event and has instead agreed to donate the original artwork to the Herceptin Fighting cause. The framed original cartoon, designed specifically to assist the aims of this protest, will be auctioned at the end of the event, with all proceeds being donated to the Herceptin Fighting Fund. Keep an eye on this site for details of how you can bid for a piece of art that will have its own special place in New Zealand's history, as an illustration that sought to help make this country a more humane place for its suffering people.
